Why Chinese Farmers Care for Their Land: Money vs. Pride

Interestingly, the study revealed that while money can motivate farmers in the short term, too much focus on financial rewards can reduce their intrinsic motivation. This is known as the crowding-out effect. In simple terms, when farmers are overly focused on making money, they may forget about the pride and responsibility they feel for their land. Understanding this balance is crucial for creating long-lasting policies to protect the environment. Short-term economic incentives can be effective, but they might not be enough.
