Why Comma. ai Loves Tesla FSD and Prefers NVIDIA GPUs

George Hotz, the head honcho at Comma. ai, recently gave a big thumbs up to Tesla's latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, version 13. He took it for a spin and was impressed, calling it "really good. " This is a notable nod from a competitor in the self-driving tech space. Experts from RBC also chimed in, noting that Tesla's FSD is close to matching Waymo's performance, which currently stands at around 17, 000 miles without intervention, while Tesla's FSD v13 is tracking at about 10, 000 miles. Elon Musk has even announced that a fully autonomous version of FSD is on the horizon for later this year, with the Cybercab set to hit the streets in 2026.

Hotz also shared that Comma. ai is ramping up its game, aiming to catch up to Tesla's current capabilities in about two years. They're investing heavily in training compute and data ingestion, seeing significant improvements as a result. Interestingly, when it comes to hardware, Comma. ai is stamping its approval on NVIDIA GPUs. Hotz declared that they're buying NVIDIA hardware because "nobody at Comma wants to deal with AMD. " This isn't a surprising move, given that Wall Street analysts like HSBC have noted that AMD's AI GPU roadmap isn't as competitive as initially thought. Wolfe Research also warned that AMD won't be a major player in AI for 2025. So, it seems Comma. ai is happy with Tesla's FSD and is betting big on NVIDIA for their hardware needs.
