Robert Eggers, the director known for films like The Witch and The Lighthouse, has no interest in making movies set in the present day. He finds the idea of filming modern technology, like cars and cellphones, quite off-putting. "It makes me feel ill, " he admitted in a recent interview. Eggers prefers to work with historical settings, having directed films set in the 1630s, the Viking Era, and 19th-century New England. His latest project, Nosferatu, is no exception, as it's set in 1830s Transylvania. When asked how far into the future he might go for a film, Eggers mentioned he might consider the 1950s but finds the period before World War II more appealing. His upcoming film, Werwulf, is reportedly set in 13th-century England. It's clear that Eggers is most comfortable in historical settings, avoiding the modern world in his cinematic storytelling.
