Why Elon Musk's Tesla Pay Package Got Blocked Again

Elon Musk's massive pay package, now valued at around $101 billion, has been rejected again by a Delaware court. This package, comprising 303 million Tesla stock options, was first tossed out in January by the same judge. Despite being re-approved by shareholders in June, the court still found it unfair. The judge, Kathaleen McCormick, argued that Musk and Tesla's board didn't prove the package was fair. She noted that Musk negotiated his own pay, and the board agreed to his terms without ensuring they were reasonable for shareholders.

Musk doesn't get a regular salary; he makes money through stock options that let him buy shares at a discount. Tesla's board had claimed they needed the package to keep Musk focused on the company, but the judge didn't buy it. Musk has other ventures like SpaceX and has been involved in politics, donating to Donald Trump's campaign and joining his team.
