Why Liberals are Unintentionally Supporting Trump

Ever thought about how your everyday purchases might be helping Donald Trump? It's a surprising truth. This week, news broke that Amazon paid a whopping $40 million for a documentary produced by Melania Trump. This isn't the first time Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos, has shown support for Trump. He's also been known to kill endorsements for Trump's opponents, dine with him, and donate millions to Trump's inauguration fund. Other big shots like Apple's CEO Tim Cook and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg have done similar things. You might be thinking, "How am I supporting Trump? " Well, if you're using services from companies that back Trump, you're part of the problem. Banking with Bank of America, investing with Goldman Sachs, or even watching shows made by Fox or Disney means you're indirectly supporting Trump. Your money and attention are like votes—they count.

The power of the purse is something liberals have forgotten. Boycotts played a big role in the past. Remember the Boston Tea Party? Or how boycotts helped end apartheid in South Africa? Companies fear Trump and his supporters more than they fear us. We need to change that. Companies like Budweiser quickly folded when Trump's supporters boycotted their products. If we don't act, companies will keep using our money to support Trump. Mark Zuckerberg, for instance, has already ended fact-checking on Facebook, a move that pleases Trump. He's betting you'll stay on his platform no matter what. It's not just about Trump. Zuckerberg's platforms have been accused of promoting hate and damaging mental health. Bezos runs a tough workplace and busts unions. These aren't people we should be supporting. It's time to rethink our purchases. We don't have to live like monks, but we should make choices that align with our values. There are companies like Costco and Target that deserve our business, and others like Amazon that don't.
