Why North Carolina Voted for Stein Over Robinson

In North Carolina, Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson lost the governor's race to Democrat Josh Stein. This isn't surprising when you look at Robinson's history. Before the race, CNN reported that he made some shocking comments on a porn website years ago. He allegedly called himself a "black NAZI" and even supported bringing back slavery. Robinson denies writing these comments, but many of his campaign staffers resigned after the story broke. His campaign was already under fire for his views on abortion, education, and LGBTQ issues.

Stein's team used these past comments against him, reminding voters of his extreme positions. Stein, who will be the state's first Jewish governor, focused his campaign on improving education and opposing the state's abortion ban. His victory was helped by female voters, college-educated voters, and independents. In fact, 61% of independent voters chose Stein over Robinson. Stein's win shows that voters in North Carolina wanted a change and didn't agree with Robinson's controversial past.
