Why Pennsylvania Wants Kids to Pick Up the Pen Again
Pennsylvania, USAFriday, June 27, 2025
But why the sudden interest in cursive? For starters, it's been over 15 years since schools started phasing it out, thanks to the Common Core curriculum. Now, Pennsylvania is joining a growing list of states that want to bring it back. In fact, over two dozen states have already made cursive a part of their early education.
There's more to it than just brain benefits. Cursive can also help kids understand history better. Think about it: many important historical documents, like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, were written in cursive. Being able to read and write in this style could make these documents more accessible to students.
But here's a question to think about: in a world where technology is king, is it really necessary to bring back cursive? Or is this just a case of holding onto the past? It's a debate that's sure to continue as more states consider making cursive a part of their curriculum.
