Why Remakes Should Revive the Near-Misses
Silent Hill, JapanFriday, October 18, 2024
It's not just about horror games either. Until Dawn's remake felt pointless because the original was already playable on modern consoles. And games like Fahrenheit, despite their flaws, had unique ideas that could be revisited. The problem is that publishers often stick to what's popular rather than taking risks on games that could be great with a little more love.
When we play remakes, we often think, "I wish this was a new game." Publishers should consider taking chances on near-misses and games with ambitious ideas that didn't quite land. They could create something truly special. After all, gaming is about pushing boundaries and trying new things.
