Why Single Women Might Be Happier Than Men

Researchers Elaine Hoan and Geoff MacDonald looked at data from nearly 6, 000 single adults and found some interesting trends. Women reported higher satisfaction with their lives, even when they weren't in relationships. They seemed happier being single, less interested in finding a partner, and more sexually satisfied. This was true across the board, with women enjoying their solitude more than men.

But why is this the case? The researchers suggest that women have stronger support networks outside of romantic relationships. They also pointed out that women often end up doing more household chores and might not have their sexual needs met as well in relationships. For men, the study found that they might gain more from being in a relationship. Dr. Bella DePaulo, author of "Single at Heart, " added that single women also spend more time pursuing their interests. While some studies show that marriage can be beneficial for women, others show that single women are doing just fine. For instance, single women own more homes in the US than single men. Even though being single can be expensive, many women are okay paying the "singles tax" to remain independent.
