Why Were Some Students Denied Loan Forgiveness?
Long Beach, California, USA,Wednesday, October 30, 2024
Evelyn Lara, a plaintiff in the case, is one such student. She enrolled in an ultrasound tech program at the Career Institute in California. She told the recruiters she only finished 10th grade, but the college still got her over $17, 500 in federal loans. She had to take an ability-to-benefit test, but the school allegedly provided the answers.
The Department of Education denied Lara's request for loan forgiveness. They didn't give a clear reason. Lara appealed, but the department stood by their decision. She's now stuck with nearly $20, 000 in loans and no secure job.
The lawsuit aims to change this. It's time to consider these students' plight and the evidence they have. After all, they shouldn't be paying for loans they weren't rightfully given.
