Ever heard of the WWE? Well, it's not just about big muscles and drama – recent lawsuits are shedding light on a dark side. A group of men, who were kids when they worked backstage, claim they were abused by a ringside announcer named Mel Phillips. Phillips is said to have tricked them into helping out, only to later expose them to disgusting acts.
Linda McMahon, known for her political career and co-founding WWE with her husband Vince, is now named in a lawsuit. She's currently helping former President Trump's team transition. The lawsuit also targets her husband, WWE, and its parent company.
What's shocking is that the accusers say WWE leaders knew about the abuse and did nothing to stop it. A lawyer, Greg Gutzler, openly criticized this, calling it unconscionable. But Vince McMahon's lawyer has a different story, calling the claims "absurd" and "meritless. "
Years ago, Vince McMahon had fired Phillips for being interested in young boys, yet he was hired back and continued his awful behavior. Court papers describe private rooms where Phillips filmed his acts. Yuck!
You might think, "That's all in the past now, right? " Well, it's not. Another employee, Janel Grant, has also sued Vince McMahon for similar reasons. Netlix is even making a documentary about Vince's misconduct.
It's a messy situation, and it looks like it's not going away anytime soon. What do you think? Should people be held accountable for knowing about such abuse and doing nothing?
