Yoon's Home: A Tense Standoff in South Korea
Seoul, South KoreaMonday, January 13, 2025
The anti-corruption agency, along with police and military, are trying to decide how to detain Yoon. They're worried about a clash between the presidential security service and the police. The acting leader of South Korea warned both sides to stay calm. Meanwhile, the chief of the presidential security service, Park Jong-joon, resigned and was questioned by police. Yoon says he'll fight to the end against efforts to remove him from office. South Korean presidents have special immunity, except for charges of rebellion or treason. If Yoon is detained, investigators have two days to decide whether to arrest him formally or let him go.
