Young Rugby Players: How Fatigue Affects Sprint Speed and Muscle Power
United KingdomThursday, January 16, 2025
The study showed that as the kids did more sprints, their muscle power, force, and speed all went down. Their sprint times got slower, and they got more tired. Interestingly, the older kids didn't handle the fatigue any better than the younger ones. This might be because the way the tests were done (like how long the exercises lasted and how intense they were) made a difference. Also, the older kids might have been more used to this kind of training.
For both groups, the biggest problem was that their muscles couldn't move as fast, even though they were still pretty strong. This made their movements less effective. So, coaches might want to focus on training the kids to push hard and fast when they're tired. They could also work on making the kids' movements more effective, because that's really important in team sports.
