Instead, he challenged New York Governor Kathy Hochul and, although he lost, he did better than previous Republican candidates in the heavily Democratic state. Zeldin’s campaign helped Republicans win several House seats in New York suburbs, leading to a majority in the House, according to Trump’s campaign. This makes Zeldin’s EPA leadership significant, not just for his policies but also for his political influence.
