Zoox CTO Challenges Tesla's Robotaxi Plan: 'Safety Concerns Remain'
San Francisco, Las Vegas, USAThursday, October 31, 2024
Just a few weeks ago, Elon Musk unveiled the Cybercab prototype and announced plans to use Model 3 and Model Y cars as robotaxis in California and Texas by the end of 2025. Levinson, however, expressed his concerns. He finds Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software impressive but also stressful. He pointed out that FSD might mislead drivers into feeling safe when it's not completely reliable.
Levinson emphasized that FSD is much less safe than a human driver based on publicly available metrics, although Tesla's self-reported safety statistics have faced criticism. Despite these concerns, Zoox is gearing up to launch its custom-built robotaxi in San Francisco and Las Vegas, with plans to expand to an early-rider program in 2025.
