Sports reporters handpick the nominees, but anyone can suggest a standout player by emailing sports@democratandchronicle. com before 7 p. m. each Sunday. Every athlete on a Section V boys team is eligible, so the field is wide open.

Among those in contention this week are several athletes who have already made headlines. Robert Briggs, a hockey player for the Blue Devils, netted a sudden‑death goal that gave his team a victory over Batavia Notre Dame United in the sectionals. Dylan Carey, an Irondequoit senior, scored twice—including the overtime winner—in a win over Webster Thomas. Penfield’s George Marron also delivered an overtime goal, while Portside’s Samuel Schultz racked up four goals and an assist in a playoff game against Brighton.
